SEAT Alhambra gets new engines for 2015

SEAT's large MPV gets updates for 2015, including the latest cabin and safety tech and more fuel-efficient engines

SEAT's Alhambra might be five years old now but it's still one of our favourite big MPVs. And now it's been freshened up slightly with a range of small updates for 2015, including the latest generation of VW Group powertrains, comfort features and safety tech.

Based on the VW Sharan that received similar updates earlier this year, the latest version of the Spanish seven-seater will go on sale in May for deliveries in the summer. Like before, it gets a 2.0-litre diesel and a 1.4-litre petrol engines but these are now the latest Euro 6-compliant units.

Best MPVs to buy now

The venerable 2.0-litre TDI diesel is available in either 148bhp or 181bhp forms, with the torque output of both at 380Nm. The familiar 1.4 TSI turbo unit is the sole petrol choice, also developing 148bhp.

More important is the news that all engines are now 15 per cent more efficient than they were, thanks to mechanical tweaks and new tech such as a coasting function on the DSG automatic gearbox. The lowest powered 2.0-litre diesel manages 57.6mpg and 130g/km of CO2.

The Alhambra also comes with SEAT's latest Easy Connect touchscreen infotainment system, with faster processing power and more connectivity features. A multi-collision autobrake system is now standard fit, while Dynamic Chassis Control and a Blind-Spot Sensor is now available.
