Tough-mudding Nissan Navara AT-32 launched

Nissan Navara AT-32 is an off-road focused version of the pick-up truck, with a beefier chassis and knobbly tyres

This is the Nissan Navara AT-32. It’s a tweaked version of the standard pick-up and built in collaboration with the off-road specialist Arctic Trucks – it’s available to order now, with prices starting from £42,850.

Chassis upgrades over the standard Nissan Navara include a lifted Bilstein suspension kit, a full aluminium underbody protection plate and new matte-black alloy wheels shod in 32-inch diameter off-road tyres. As such, the modified pick-up now has 243mm of ground clearance and an approach angle of 35 degrees.

The wheels also feature dual valves to allow faster and more accurate pressure adjustments, while the tyres are large enough to run with reduced pressure – Nissan says this provides better traction when driving on sand and ice.

Like the standard Navara, the AT-32 features a few electronic assistance systems. Hill start assist, hill descent control and an intelligent 360-degree camera – which can help drivers manoeuvre around off-road obstacles such as tree roots and boulders – are all fitted.

Buyers get a few styling tweaks, too. Arctic Trucks has fitted a set of flared wheel arches, new side decals, branded mud-flaps and fresh side-steps. There’s also model-specific badging for the pick-up truck’s front wings, centre caps and tailgate.

Nissan and Arctic Trucks offer a few optional extras, which the pair say will make the Navara more competent off-road. Upgrades include an electronic front differential lock, a full-size spare wheel and a snorkel air intake, which will allow the pick-up truck to wade through water up to 800mm deep.

Like the standard Navara, the AT-32 is powered by a turbocharged 2.3-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, with an output of 187bhp and 450Nm of torque. The unit is mated to the same mechanical four-wheel-drive system and six-speed manual gearbox as the standard model – although buyers can have a seven-speed automatic for an extra £4,020.
