VW Beetle gets summertime style and spec tweaks plus R-Line trim

Fresh-faced Volkswagen Beetle introduced with new looks, tech and range-topping R-Line trim

VW has introduced a raft of exterior and interior updates to the Beetle, with prices starting from £16,820 for the coupe and £19,775 for the cabriolet.

Visual tweaks are minimal and amount to a slightly reprofiled front bumper and new fog light surrounds. Inside, there are new materials choices, while new dials and a brighter instrument panel have also been added.

Alongside the updates, VW has also introduced a new range-topping R-Line trim to the Beetle lineup. R-Line models are marked out by 18-inch Twister alloy wheels, unique R-Line bumpers, a rear diffuser and twin exhaust pipes. The trim level is only available with the 148bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine, but can be had with either a six-speed manual gearbox or DSG automatic transmission.

Inside, aluminum pedals, an R-Line leather trimmed steering wheel and unique instrument dials have also been added. Climate control, ambient lighting, parking sensors and cruise control are all standard kit on R-Line models – the trim is a replacement for the outgoing Sport specification.

A new Black Style pack is also available to customers for £625, adding 17-inch Rotor black alloy wheels, a black painted roof and front grille.

Two petrol and two diesel engines are available across the Beetle lineup. A 104bhp 1.2-litre petrol remains the entry-level option, while a 148bhp 1.4 turbo and 109bhp or 148bhp version of the 2.0-litre diesel are also available.
