Renault Scenic and Grand Scenic get new mild hybrid system

New Renault Scenic diesel Hybrid Assist models are already available, costing from £25,055

Renault has announced a new version of the Scenic and Grand Scenic MPVs with hybrid power, and it's available to order now, from £25,055 in Dynamique Nav trim.

The new dCi 110 Hybrid Assist model uses the same 108bhp diesel engine as the standard dCi 110 Renault Scenic, but is fitted with a 10kW electric motor and a 48v 150kWh battery to power it. That provides an extra 15Nm of torque at the most, and is charged up using the powertrain, so there's no need to plug in.

Renault says the Scenic hybrid will manage 80.7mpg (on the combined cycle) and emits 94g/km of CO2, which is a 10 per cent improvement over the standard dCi 110 diesel version. There is a trade-off, though, as even with the extra torque the 0-62mph time is reduced slightly from 12.4 seconds to 12.9 seconds.

The Hybrid Asist model features an indicator on the dash with details on when the powertrain is sending power, or recovering it. Standard equipment on these cars, which cost around £1,000 more than a non-hybrid equivalent, includes lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition and auto high beams, as well as LED running lights, climate control, DAB radio and 20-inch wheels.

As the Dynamique Nav trim name suggests, sat-nav is standard-fit as well. Option packs including the Safety Pack (£400), Parking Pack Premium (£500) and Look Pack Premium (£800) add extra sfety kit, while the Leather Pack Premium (£1,250) adds leather upholstery and the BOSE Pack (£500) upgrades the speaker system.

Orders are open now for the new models, starting from £25,055 for the Scenic Hybrid Assist and £26,855 for the Grand Scenic version.
